Erik ten Hag does not believe that Manchester United’s 3-2 victory over Newcastle will be his final game at Old Trafford. Despite widespread speculation about his future following a tumultuous season, the 54-year-old Dutchman remains confident.

After the win on Wednesday night, ten Hag addressed the fans who stayed for the players’ traditional lap of honor. Amid a mix of cheers and boos, he took the microphone and said, “As you know, it wasn’t an easy season, but one thing remained constant – your backing of the team. This season is not over yet. We will travel to Brighton aiming for three points, and then we go to Wembley. I promise you the players will give everything to bring a cup to Old Trafford.”

Ten Hag is set to guide United through their final Premier League match against Brighton and the FA Cup final against Manchester City. These matches are crucial for securing a spot in European competitions, with United currently eighth in the league and needing to better Newcastle’s result to secure a Europa Conference League or Europa League place.
Despite the disappointing season, ten Hag sees positive developments. “I don’t talk about pride – we are all disappointed with the season – but still, we can win something and we have to go for this,” he told Sky Sports.

He acknowledged the team’s challenges, particularly with the defense, but praised the progress of the players, including the youngsters, and highlighted the club’s high potential.
Before the game, ten Hag dismissed questions about his job security, expressing confidence that “common sense” would prevail among the club’s decision-makers.
Bruno Fernandes’ Future at Manchester United
Bruno Fernandes also made headlines with his post-match comments. After the Newcastle win, he told Sky Sports, “I feel that the club wants me to be a part of the future. I don’t want to be a player that the club doesn’t want. If for some reason they don’t want me, I will go, but if they want me, I will stay.”
Ten Hag was seen pulling Fernandes away from the interview and later assured reporters that the club wants to keep him. “No, absolutely the club wants to keep Bruno. There’s no question. As far as I know, he loves Manchester United. He always gives his best, even playing through injuries. He loves football, but he wants to win.”
Fernandes has two years left on his contract but has been linked with moves to Bayern Munich and Saudi Arabia this summer. Ten Hag’s comments suggest the club values Fernandes highly and intends to keep him as a key player.
