Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, submitted the names of caretaker committees for local councils to the state House of Assembly led by Victor Oko-Jumbo for screening and confirmation on Tuesday.
Shortly after a statewide broadcast on Tuesday, the governor directed Heads of Local Government Administration (HLGAs) to assume control of councils due to the expiration of former council chairmen’s three-year terms.
Each Local Government Area (LGA) will have a caretaker committee chairman and seven members, as listed.

Speaker Victor Oko-Jumbo’s state Assembly has consequently invited nominees for screening and confirmation as caretaker committee chairmen and members across the 23 LGAs.
The screening, overseen by House Clerk Dr. G. M. Gillis-West, aligns with Section 9(5) of the Rivers State Local Government Law, No. 5 of 2018.
The nominees will undergo review by the Assembly before being officially appointed to their roles.
The review session is scheduled for Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at 8:00 a.m., and will take place at the Hallowed Chamber, Rivers State House of Assembly Auditorium, Admin. Block, Rivers State Government House, Port Harcourt.
Nominees should bring 12 copies of their Curriculum Vitae (CV) and originals with photocopies of their credentials.
