Assu strike update Today 2021 – The member of the national executive committee stated that the Academic staff union of universities Asuu is not embarking on industrial action from Tuesday.
The NEC member who is also the chairman of the University of Lagos, unilag chapter, Dr. Dele Ashiru comment on a discussion with the vanguard newspaper on month 30th August 2021 he further explained that there are steps and processes required for Asuu, the academic staff union of universities to embark on strike.
He also stated that the academic staff union of universities Asuu issued the federal government up till Tuesday, 31st August to meet some demands. However, if the demands made by the academic staff union of the university are not met.
The reason because the academic staff union of universities is made up of different bodies, Asuu is not a one-man union if the demands put forth by the union is not met the national leadership would call a netting of NEC and report back to it there the next step would be decided on.
He also said that no meeting has been called and so the chances of a strike starting on Tuesday are very slim. He also further stated that the union demand from the government is just three, Asuu wants the government to sign and implement the renegotiated agreement they have with the government, the government should also mainstream academic earned allowance and pay the 40-billion-naira revitalization fund he explained.
Recall that Asuu and the federal government have a face-off that led to a 9-month strike last year the strike was called off last year December but up until now the federal government is yet to fulfill their demands.
