Commissioner of Police Funsho Adegboye confirmed the arrest on June 11, detailing that the action was taken to prevent any potential escalation of violence ahead of the elections.
Reverend Martins was reportedly taken into custody following a statement he made in a widely circulated video, which authorities believe could disrupt the peace during the election period. “The arrest should serve as a warning to others who might consider similar actions,” Commissioner Adegboye stated during a press briefing in Benin, the state capital.
