Workers from Dangote Cement Company Plc in Okpella Community, Etsako Area of Edo State, have been held captive for over a week. The kidnappers are demanding a ransom of ₦5 million from the family of one of the victims, Abah James Ogwu.
Last Monday, unidentified assailants ambushed a staff bus, abducting Ogwu and his colleagues. Victor Ogwu, the victim’s son, shared that the kidnappers initially demanded ₦15 million but reduced it to ₦5 million after multiple pleas and negotiations.

Victor revealed that through the help of friends and family and selling land, they managed to raise ₦2 million. However, the kidnappers have not responded since being informed of the raised amount.
He expressed concern over the lack of police intervention and called for help from Dangote Company and the police force. “My dad works in the administrative department and was also kidnapped. The kidnappers called my mother and uncle last Wednesday and demanded ₦15 million. After we pleaded, they reduced it to ₦5 million.
We have managed to raise ₦2 million with the help of friends and family and sell land in the village. Today, the kidnappers called my uncle, but they have not responded since he informed them about the ₦2 million. We are waiting for their call. I have been begging online for funds because we do not have enough for the ransom.

Victor also mentioned the lack of updates from the Edo State Police Command, as he and his mother reside in Ogun State. He pleaded for intervention from both Dangote Company and the police.
Chidi Nwabuzor, the spokesperson for the Edo Police Command, assured that investigations are ongoing. However, no further details have been provided on the efforts to secure the release of the captives.
