The Department of State Services, DSS, has clearly stated that it will not allow protests from individuals and groups on June 12, recognized as Democracy Day in Nigeria.
In a statement released on Tuesday night, the DSS warned those intending to protest to refrain from any violent or disruptive behavior.
The agency, through its Director of Public Relations and Strategic Communications, Peter Afunanya, stated that it had received intelligence regarding plans to provoke violence and disrupt public order.

The statement emphasized, “While citizens have the right to assemble and express themselves, such freedoms should not endanger public safety and national security. The agency will not tolerate attempts by certain non-state actors to incite widespread discontent through potentially violent demonstrations.”
