A two-story building under construction at Ekeoyibo Market in Amawbia, Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State has collapsed.
The building, which housed traders and shop owners, collapsed this afternoon, July 4.
Although the exact number of casualties has not been officially confirmed, it is feared that lives may have been lost, and many are believed to be trapped under the rubble.

Eyewitnesses reported that the incident occurred around 12 noon, causing panic among traders and residents in the area.
They said the building suddenly crumbled, burying numerous traders beneath the debris.
One person has been rescued from the rubble and rushed to Amawbia Maternity Home for urgent medical attention.
The spokesman for the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident, stating that two victims have been rescued and rescue operations are still ongoing.
According to Ikenga, in response to a distress call today at about 12:40 pm regarding the building collapse at Ekeoyibo Market, Amawbia, police operatives have rescued two victims and taken them to the hospital for medical care.
He said that on the directives of the Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations led operatives at the scene for an on-the-spot assessment. The area has been cordoned off, and rescue operations are still ongoing.
