The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) conducted a large-scale operation in Akure, Ondo State, arresting 127 individuals suspected of internet fraud. The arrests occurred at what was described as a “Yahoo Party,” simultaneously held at Signature and Abah Clubs on Saturday, June 8, 2024. Initially scheduled for Wednesday, the party was reportedly moved to evade the EFCC’s surveillance.
According to EFCC sources, the early morning sting operation was based on credible intelligence, and the suspects are currently assisting with the investigation. Ten exotic cars, multiple electronic devices, including phones and laptops, a motorcycle, luxury wristwatches, and numerous documents deemed incriminating by the authorities were recovered during the raid.
The EFCC has stated that these individuals will be charged in court following the conclusion of investigations. However, this action has ignited a firestorm of reactions across social media, with many questioning the methods and implications of such raids.
