The National Assembly has recommended purchasing two new presidential aircraft for President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima. This recommendation was made by the House of Representatives Committee on National Security and Intelligence.

According to the lawmakers, new aircraft are needed for security reasons and to address the high maintenance costs of the current Presidential Air Fleet (PAF).
The Committee made this recommendation based on a report from its technical subcommittee after a hearing on the condition and safety of the aircraft in the PAF.
The legislators noted that the expenses for maintaining President Tinubu’s 19-year-old plane are significant, leading to extended grounding periods and increased operational costs for the fleet.
The report states, in part, “The Committee strongly believes that, given the fragile structure of the Nigerian federation and the serious consequences of any potential technical or operational failures of the Presidential Air Fleet, it is in the country’s best interest to procure two additional aircraft as recommended.”
