The presidency has refuted recent reports claiming that the federal government is suggesting a new minimum wage of ₦105,000 for Nigerian workers. The denial came in a brief statement on Thursday evening by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy.
According to Onanuga, media reports alleging that Wale Edun, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, proposed a new minimum wage in the document submitted to President Tinubu on Thursday are untrue.

He stated, “Wale Edun, the Honorable Minister of Finance and coordinating minister of the economy, has not put forward a ₦105,000 minimum wage proposal. The conflicting information being circulated is incorrect.”
Earlier, it was reported that Wale Edun, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, met with President Bola Tinubu on Thursday regarding ongoing talks about a new national minimum wage. Atiku Bagudu, the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, also attended the meeting at the State House in Abuja.
During the meeting, Edun reportedly presented a new minimum wage plan to President Tinubu, meeting the 48-hour deadline previously set for him. Following the meeting, Edun addressed the press, reassuring, “There is no need for concern,” without providing further details on the meeting’s discussions.
